One whimsical way you can use your powerpoint creations is to put a custom image on a basketball! The example they give is strange. Ball really gotta be life if you announcing a baby with a basketball haha. Also wow 60 dollars a pop for that, more power to you ballers!

If you wanna do it: go ahead. I cannot say I recommend this to be how you use your Photoshop powers because if you use the ball it is sure to damage the image. But hey – good morning and have a good day! Do you!!!

Super Bowl LIV Ads: Big Effects and Brand Mashups

The ads shown during the game had the effort, effects, and budgets of big motion picture films. The ads are jam packed with serious CGI and dramatic camera angles. Even simple 30 second spots for Little Caesar’s pizza are full of celebrity appearances, cinematic shots, and high quality CGI. These brands go all out at a chance to go viral. What will go viral is studied fiercely and analyzed over and over again but still seemingly unpredictable.

In addition to the high production value of seemingly every commercial, another trend this year was parent companies flexing their marketing muscles by combining their various brands they hold into one massive commercial. These whimsical crossovers are admittedly strangely entertaining. Here are two examples

Here we see the Kool Aid man crying at the burial of Mr. Peanut which spawns a new baby peanut that the Mr. Peanut brand is promoting with the problematic #BabyNut hashtag. P and G just decided instead of making ads for each of their brands, to just drop ALL OF THEM and all the celebrity spokespeople in one massive ad. I mean why not if you own that many iconic brands. It is interesting to see the companies take these two approaches at advertising. Some with flashy effects, some just saying “well look at all the brands I own”. These were not the only trends, there were a ton of fire fighting spots and tear jerkers always get some love. Super Bowl ads continue to be one of the most interesting pieces of our pop culture.

Deep Fakes And You :)

Hello Good Morning! Today we are going to be discussing deep fake videos. These videos can be thought of as the equivalent as edited or Photoshopped pictures. For the past decade or so it is has been a common practice to doubt the legitimacy of an image on the first look. Now this mentality must be applied to videos because editing technology of videos has caught up to or even surpassed that of images. Videos used to be considered PROOF of an event. Now this is just not the case which adds even more to the workload of a conscious consumer of news and media. To be informed in 2020 it really take a lot of effort. It could be argued that at this point it is almost easier to just not pay close attention to current events above a surface level understanding. This is an irresponsible approach but determining what is real and what is not is a hard enough job on its own before even trying to make sense out of news media.

But, I believe that when photo editing software became main stream there were similar sentiments as well. People are in general smart and incredibly adaptable. Deep fakes will be problematic, but I do not believe them to be severely dangerous in the long term.

That being said, a dangerous outcome I can see of deep fakes is to provoke already unstable or dangerous individuals into action. For example, someone losing a grasp on reality and watching deep fake after deep fake of a politician with no care about its legitimacy could be provoked into attacking a politician. This is one way it could get really dangerous really fast with out toxic news environment.
